Hello to those four of you who follow my blog. Sorry for the lack of posts recently, I’ve been bogged down with lots of job applications for teaching positions. I’m moving the blog (again) to a different location since I have changed web hosts. At kylepetersen.com you will find a new layout for my portfolio site as well as a link to the new blog location. Hopefully I will be back on track with posting more frequently at the new location.

Create a photograph that looks as if it should be used in a fashion advertisement. Look at some examples in print and on the web for inspiration. Think carefully about the poses and environment.

SCAD Exhibition
My work will be featured in two upcoming exhibitions in the Atlanta, GA region as part of Atlanta Celebrates Photography. The first exhibition is entitled “Trail to Happiness” and will take place at Worthmore Jewelers in Decatur, GA. I have two photographs in this show, Peanut Butter and Squirrel Chase. This is not my usual style of photography, but it is a fun side project. The second exhibition is a SCAD-Atlanta Photography Exhibition that will take place at Atlantic Station. This show will include Explode from my Phantasm series and Caffeine Mountain which I created originally for the SUU faculty show.

Pick a subject/object that we typically think of as ugly and/or unpleasant and try to portray it in a beautiful way. Think about your angle and lighting decisions in particular.

Assignment: Make a portrait of stranger. See if you can make an engaging image of someone you have only just met. (In the spirit of the contest, please do not use someone you already know.)
How can you get them to let their guard down?

I gave my digital imaging students the task of creating a mythical creature that used elements from at least five different photographs and scanned items. Here are a few of my favorites:

Assignment: You are a photographer for a news magazine. Your editor needs a photograph to run alongside an article about the current state of the economy. Think about how you can illustrate the article concept with a single photo.
